8/8: MFNW Letters Kidnapped!!!!

We here at MusicfestNW are frantically trying to track down our beloved letters.  They were last seen at the opening reception of the second annual MusicfestNW poster show.  At some point during the evening the Portland Mercury kidnapped them and we have very little information to offer at this time.  We all thought the Portland Mercury staffers were there to enjoy the artwork for the upcoming festival but at some point they were able to kidnap the letters.  Please keep checking here and wweek.com for an official statement from Willamette Week’s Associate Publisher Shawna McKeown.

8/12: THE LETTERS ARE SAFE!
so the terror has finally ended.
after a weekend of hell and hipster madness we
were finally re-united with N. (so glad you are okay)
and we were returned to our much beloved family & crew. the WW.
this one last act of terrorism, forcing us to form one last
devious & evil message...FWW.
the last few days will take much reflection and self examination.
we can in no way express the pain and horror that goes along with
being kidnapped. you truly fear you will never see your loved ones again.
so, we are beyond happy to return to the happy, warm, welcome arms of the WW.
and can we say...hipster terrorists suck!
resting & relaxing,
MFW
8/13: The Letters Blog
Hey Everybody,

We would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of support we received after our abduction last week, especially Willamette Week for posting the following videos, http://wweek.com/wwire/?p=12724 and http://wweek.com/wwire/?p=12726, which were crucial to our safe return.  For those of you who have yet to meet us, we are the letters: M (Music), F (Fest), N (North), and W (West), the logo for MusicfestNW 2008.  We had just started to explore the town before the traumatic event that took place on Thursday, August 7th, when we were taken from our rightful owners and forced to many things that we are not proud of.  For the next month you'll be able to follow along with us as we go around Portland, as well as read about the things we did before our kidnapping.  We are going to keep track of our escapades here, follow along by clicking on The Letters link on MusicfestNW.com.  We hope you enjoy them.  Who knows, you may be the next to see us out on the town.

what a fun public transportation can be. here we are on route
8/13: Look who we found!

we ran into caryn brooks, one of the very first MFNW board members
8/13: BEARS

then we went to the bear cage...and it got freaky. we got freaked
8/13: Our Creative Side

8/13: SHARON JONES & THE DAP KINGS
finally as the sun went down, sharon jones took the stage & we danced all night long what a perfect portland day...more soon.

8/13: Brewers Fest
Diary,
N here.  What a crazy start to the day.  F and W insisted that we head to the Oregon Brewer's Festival to start the day off right.
8/13: New Friends
Man, that place was packed!  Luckily we were able to make some new friends and find a place in the sun to grab a couple drinks.
8/13: Disoriented
After that though, my memory gets a little fuzzy but luckily we had our trusty camera to keep track of our actions.  We had a lot more on tap for that day, so hopefully some of the other letters will fill you in on what happened next.

later,
N
8/13: Clinton Street Fair
What up diary,
After a nap brought on by the wildness of the Brew Fest, M, N, W and I decided to check out what was happening at the Clinton Street Fair.  There we were greeted with a much more laid back atmosphere than we expected.  Everyone there was just out enjoying the beautiful weather, and who could blame them.
8/13: Jumpin' Rope
Then we met some of the coolest girls yet.  The girls from Jumpin' Jackie O's were great and they took us for a nice ride.  Be sure to check them out at JUJOSPDX.COM  Look at how much fun they are having with us!  Thanks again for showing us such a great time.
Until next time,
F
8/13: Rock n' Roll Camp for Girls
hey diary,
things move fast in the life of the letters!  yesterday we went to the Rock N' Roll Camp for Girls Showcase at the bagdad!  we saw over 15 brand new bands that had just formed that week, & they all played original songs!  we are so glad that they are involved with the festival. they are doing such good work over there & we like being apart of something that feels so good.  sorry to get all tender, but sometimes us letters show some emotion..  here we are at the bagdad like proud parents
8/13: Don't call us groupies
then we skipped over to the roseland for monkey trick & girl talk.  here is what happened in the green room  that's front man trevor solomon (and MusicfestNW executive director) & girl talk getting really friendly with F & N.... can't say i wasn't jealous....that trevor is one handsome guy! more soon...
love,
M
8/14: Pong
DIARY,
WHAT AN ICREDIBLE WEEKEND.  Who would have imagined that after all we've done the last couple days that Sunday would end up so wild.  We started of the night with a trip to Rontom's (which will be featuring the Bladen County Records Showcase on September 5th as part of MusicfestNW).  There really is no better way to start of the night then with a little bit of pong.  Luckily, N and I were able to dominate M and F.
8/14: In barlight she looked alright....
From there we went on to see The Hold Steady perform at Portland's legendary Crystal Ballroom.  They put on such a great show!  Anyway I'm exhausted and all the other letters have already passed out.  Can't wait to let you know what we do next.

Yours,
W
